Introduction

We offer short online distance learning courses which offer a flexible, interactive way of learning the material and preparing you for examinations and success!

We currently offer the course shown on the links below and you can find out more information on individual courses by following the link.  All of our courses use an online learning platform to deliver the lessons enabling you to access them 24 hours a day and from any device.  You can access the online training material as soon as you have enrolled.  You can find out more about our training delivery here.  We know you will find training with Insight Optical Training a rewarding experience and our training will help you achieve all you want to achieve.

NEW! OPTICAL SUPPORT MODULES

Starting on 1 July 2019, we are very pleased to offer new training modules for Optical Support Staff.  These modules will give optical support staff extra confidence in the workplace and enhanced their knowledge on many areas of optics.

There are ten modules to choose from and you can select as many as you wish dependant on the area you wish to learn about.  There is no formal timetable or start date so you can apply straight away and start learning.  You can do the modules in any order and at any time, take a break and come back to them when it suits you.

We are accepting application now, and the modules will be available to start studying from 1 July.

There is no examination to take, you will just need to achieve 70% on the assignment submitted to your tutor to receive a completion certificate.

Level 2 Optical Support Course

Awarded by the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, this course is designed to ensure you obtain a sound knowledge of optics developing the necessary skills to understand the basics of the subject whether you work in retail optics, manufacturing, sales or technical support. The course is ideally suited to a diverse range of people from those who are new to optics or those who may have been working in practice for several years. Whether you are on the first steps of a career, expanding your skills in your current role or using the course as a stepping stone to higher qualification such as the Level 3 Optical Support or the Level 4 Diploma for Optical Technicians, this Level 2 course teaches you the fundamental essential skills in both a flexible and affordable way. The Level 2 Optical Support is a short qualification to help students develop essential skills. Once completed, they will have developed an understanding of basic optical practices and techniques. Depending on your abilities, previous work experience and qualifications and your work and family commitments it can take 2-3 months to complete the mandatory units. You should allow 2-3 hours of study per week. In order to successfully achieve the Level 2 Optical Support, you will need to complete the course in the three mandatory units and select at least one optional unit.

Level 3 Optical Support Course

Awarded by the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, this course is designed to ensure you obtain a sound knowledge of optics developing the necessary skills to understand the basics of the subject whether you work in retail optics, manufacturing, sales or technical support. SCQF Level 5 certificate in optical care

Awarded by the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, this course is accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority and is supported by NHS Education for Scotland. It is designed to ensure you obtain a sound knowledge of optics developing the necessary skills to understand the basics of the subject. The course is ideally suited to a diverse range of people from those who are new to optics or those who may have been working in practice for several years. Whether you are on the first steps of a career, expanding your skills in your current role or using the course as a stepping stone to higher qualifications such as the SCQF Level 7 Certificate in Optical Care or the Level 4 Diploma for Optical Assistants, this SCQF Level 5 course teaches you the fundamental essential skills in a flexible and supportive way.
The SCQF Level 5 Certificate in Optical Care is a short qualification to help you develop essential skills. Once completed, you will have developed an understanding of basic optical practices and techniques.
The course begins in April and following a timetable of study will be completed in time for the examinations in December. You should allow 2-3 hours for study per week.
In order to successfully achieve the SCQF Level 5 Certificate in Optical Care, you will need to complete all of the five units.
