About Insight Optical Training

Insight Optical Training was founded in 2017 to support career development and progression across the optical sector. Our founder, tutors, trainers and course writers have extensive experience in both optics and education.

We provide training for Optical Assistants, receptionists, support staff and sales representatives, as well as CPD for Dispensing Opticians and Optometrists. In short, we know optics — and with our knowledge and experience, you’re in safe hands.

Anthony began his career in optics in 2004, qualifying as a Dispensing Optician in 2009 and as a Contact Lens Optician in 2011. His career has since combined optical practice with a passion for education, professional development and helping people progress in their careers.

Before founding Insight Optical Training in 2017, Anthony worked in higher education as a Senior Lecturer in Vision Science and Programme Director, where he was involved in educating and supporting the next generation of optical professionals.

Alongside leading Insight Optical Training, Anthony has developed extensive experience in qualifications, assessment and quality assurance. He has held senior examiner and assessment roles with organisations including NCFE and the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, and has contributed to the development and modernisation of regulated qualifications and assessments.

His expertise in education extends beyond optics. Anthony has held senior governance roles with awarding and professional organisations, including chairing awarding organisations and serving as a trustee and non-executive director. He is a Chartered Educational Assessor, Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and Fellow of the Institute of Continuing Professional Development, alongside holding a range of academic and professional qualifications.

Anthony remains actively involved in professional education and assessment and has a particular interest in digital learning, educational technology and the effective use of AI in education.

Through Insight Optical Training, his aim is simple: to provide accessible, high-quality education that gives people working in optics the knowledge, confidence and qualifications they need to develop their careers.
