About us

Founded in 2017 to help keep the career ladder for all in Optics. Our founders, tutors, trainers and course writers have years of experience teaching across all parts of optics. We have training for Dispensing Opticians, Optometrists, Technicians, Optical Assistants, Receptions and sales reps. In short we KNOW optics and with our knowledge you’re in safe, experienced hands with Insight Optical Training.

How our courses are delivered

My Insight Optical Training Account (MyIOTA) is your main area for the course work, quizzes and assessment that will be the main part of your course. You will receive a log in for this once you have enrolled and you will be able to access this almost straight away. In here you will find all the courses you have enrolled for, broken down into the individual units.

Our courses

Level 2 Supporting Optical Practice course

Start your career in optics with this qualification. It has been designed for support staff working within optics who do not have a registerable qualification, so whether you work in retail optics, manufacturing, sales or technical support this is a great course for you. There are eight units so you can choose any 4 units that are most applicable to your own role for the Certificate, or why not study all 8 for the Diploma.

Level 3 Supporting Optical Practice course

Further develop your knowledge and skills to be an effective member of the practice team with either the certificate or diploma option. Level 3 expands your knowledge beyond level 2 to cover more advanced topics; it is therefore ideal for those support staff who have some supervisory or management duties, or who have several years of experience in optics. This is also a great way to prepare someone who wishes to go on to study to become a Dispensing Optician.

Level 5 Certificate in Supporting Optical Care course

This course is supported by NHS Education for Scotland. It is designed to ensure you obtain a sound knowledge of optics developing the necessary skills to understand the basics of the subject. The course is ideally suited to a diverse range of people from those who are new to optics or those who may have been working in practice for several years. This Level 5 course teaches you the fundamental essential skills in a flexible and supportive way.

Level 7 Certificate in Supporting Optical Care course

This course is supported by NHS Education for Scotland. It is designed to ensure you obtain a sound knowledge of optics developing the necessary skills to understand the basics of the subject. The course is ideally suited to those who may have been working in practice for several years. This course teaches you the fundamental essential skills in a flexible and supportive way.
This Level 7 course is a short qualification to help you develop essential skills.

Insight Academy modules

Designed and written by industry experts, each module is ideal for those starting out their career in the optical world. You can start any module at any time, there are no formal examinations and no qualification but it is a relaxed informal way to increase your knowledge, skills and confidence at a pace that suits you. With 10 modules to choose from you can learn the basics in a number of essential subjects to start your career in optics.
